New Features
With the launch of the new model, several new features have been added to the earplug.
Torch
the earplug never sleeps!
Even when it is turned off (Mode Switch in OFF position) if you press the multiswitch, you will operate the LED Torch.
This can be used for “Torchy” things, because soundmen are always kept in the dark!
Pink noise
The Pink Noise generator contains a wideband analogue white noise source that is filtered at -3db per octave as frequency rises to produce true "Pink Noise"
It is useful for setup and testing of loudspeaker systems as it is a wideband signal and will operate all of the drivers in a PA system for example..
DC Input
A new feature of the earplug is the ability to power it from an external DC supply.
It took a bit of work but we have come up with a power supply that can run from the internal 9 Volt battery or any external DC source Mains or Battery) from 9 to 18 volts and with any polarity.
The input connector is the industry standard 2.5mm DC Plug and this can be centre positive or negative.
This means that you can use the earplug as a battery powered portable test device (as originally intended) and also as a temporary or fixed Mic amp, Four Wire comms or Headphone amplifier without having to worry about battery life.
The LBL battery indicator automatically turns off when the power supply is above 9.8v so you won’t be pestered by the flashing light.
Selectable mic amp gain
the earplug mic amp gain is now selectable between 20db or 40db using DIP 1
Switched or permanent phantom power
the earplug phantom power supply can now be used intermittently, via the multiswitch, or permanently (see DIP 2) to enable it's use as a mic amp or gain-raiser
Multiswitch
The white press switch on the side of the earplug has many different uses and changes depending on the position of the Mode switch.
- Off: Press for torch
- Sig: Press to interrupt the test signal (OSC/Pink Noise) for ident purposes.
- Mic: Press to talk
- Amp: Press for 48V Phantom (if DIP 2 is set to Phantom SW)
