Communications
The earplug isn't only the most useful test device you've ever used; it can also become a complete communications unit!
Imagine the situation...
You are crewing a "Remote" insert for a live show and the presenter, being slightly hard of hearing after many years of wearing an earpiece complains that the incoming talkback from the studio isn't loud enough. You simply connect the earplug2 to the end of the talkback circuit in place of the passive "Potbox", ensure the Volume Control is set to Minimum (anticlockwise) connect the earpiece to the headphones output and turn it on! You can now boost the incoming signal to the level you need.
The communications uses of the earplug don't end there however, because you can also configure it as a 4-Wire unit which will interface with any standard "4-Wire" communications system.
Set the Mode switch to MIC and the level switch to 0dB. Connect the sender side of the earplug to the outgoing 4-wire and the incoming 4-wire to the monitor input. Ensure the Volume Control is set to Minimum (anticlockwise). You can now listen to the incoming communications signal either on the Loudspeaker or via Headphones (see disclaimer below) and when you need to reply, press the Multi-switch to enable the internal Mic.
Disclaimer:
Please be aware that the earplug can generate signal levels in an earpiece or headphones that could damage your hearing.
Always ensure the Volume Control is at Minimum before you connect a signal to the Monitor Input.
The manufacturers can accept no responsibility for injuries caused in this way, you have been warned!
