Cable Tester

The cable tester mode of the earplug allows you to test an audio cable.

Testing a cable at a mixing desk

You are trying to get a microphone to work which is extended from the end of a multicore cable on a single extension. You have used the earplug to test the phantom power supply at the end of the extension and its not there.

To test the cable, unplug it from the multicore and connect both ends to the earplug. Set the Mode switch to Amp. If you have Phantom set to On (using DIP 2) you can look at the Phantom Power Leds now and if DIP 2 is set to SW, press the Multiswitch and then examine them.

Both Leds on indicate a good cable. If you only see one light then the cable is one legged and if neither of the lights illuminates then the cable may have a broken screen connection (earth lifted).
